In the years 2001 and 2002 the Ballettfoerderkreis e.V. (BFKM)
organised the Hellas Dance Festival, a dance competition in Greece. It had
been an idea of Korinna Soehn, president of BFKM, as so far there had not
existed any dance competitions in Greece at all. In order to encourage Greek
dance schools to participate an in order to make this competition more attractive
for them, some foreign dance schools had been invited to participate as well.
The competitions had been a great success. The Greeks schools started to like
the idea of competing, and the foreign schools enjoyed the sun, the beach,
and the beautiful Veakio Theatre in Piraeus.
In the year 2003 then the Greek dance schools and the municipality of Piraeus decided that they felt strong enough to organise the competition on their own. So the "Dance Competition Hellas" has now become a real Greek dance competition for Greek schools only.
For the general information of the visitor so as to see how things had begun, this site will remain online although the Hellas Dance Festival in it’s original idea does not exist any more.
Yet for the future, and much more attractive than any Greek dance competition there now exists the Dance World Cup for Children and Junior Dance Students. In 2004 it will take place June 24 – 27, in Fuerstenfeldbruck in Germany. As from the year 2005 on it will every year take place in a different town in a different country. We will keep on informing you about the various locations.
